Let me tell you a story

Because their story is so much more interesting than mine.

My best friend Jessica is one of four siblings: Johnathan (married to Kasey), Jennifer, Josh, and herself of course. There has been a running joke in their family of who would produce the first grand-baby and win the 'Brinkley race'. Johnathan and his wife Kasey, even though the oldest, were in no hurry to have kids because they were content with their menagerie of pets (and good Lord they had a lot of them). Jennifer, even though she wanted to be the first, came down with Type I diabetes just before Jessica's wedding last summer and her doctor told her to put off pregnancy plans for awhile until her body is ready for it. Jessica, as previously mentioned, just married last summer and started a new career as an elementary teacher so they had no plans to have kids any time soon. Josh is not even worth mentioning as he is a happy bachelor.

Then around late summer early fall Jessica, Jennifer, and Kasey all found out they were pregnant and due within weeks of each other, so the Brinkley race is not only a reality but very neck-a-neck. I won't bore you with details, so fast forward to present day. All three of them have been having false labor contractions last week, but Jessica actually lost her mucus plug. Her doctor gave her an ultimatum: if she does not start going into real labor by Wednesday of next week, they will induce her then. Jennifer will probably go in soon too because we honestly don't know how much farther her belly can droop. Jennifer is a little taller than me but meatier, and it is fun to see a petite person carry a basketball around. Make that more like a couple of basketballs. Poor Kasey has had nothing but trouble with her pregnancy, so who knows what will happen with her.

So... we will see who wins the race by next week!

*Funny side note: Jessica's parents names are Michael and Emily. She is naming her boy Hayden Michael after her father. Johnathan and Kasey are naming their girl Emily after his mother. And Jennifer is naming her girl... Michaela! :)

"Meatier". There's an adjective you don't run into every day.

love you, :j
